Details of WayHaven

My short teen film will look at the lives of twins in the dystopian world of WayHaven. Within this town we will be witnessing the seperate lives of these twins with their family’s and friends.
I will be focusing on 7 characters:
Alison - The twin who lives within the society. She questions the rules forced upon her from the government of the society and rebels against as many of them as she can to find out who she is. She feels like something is missing from her life and only confides in Olivia, her best friend who does everything with Alison.
Ashley - The twin who cleans the society. She hates the life she has been given and believes that she isn’t good enough for anyone or anything. She resents her parents and her siblings for putting her into the living situation she is in. She only confides in Olly who is her best friend who is born on the same day as her and lives in the same section of the sanctuary.
Riley - The mother of the twins who is important to have appear to further emphasise the “perfect” way the society is run.
Dad - The father of the twins who is also important to have appear to further emphasise the “perfect” way the society is run.
Noah - The brother of the twins. He is important because it shows the relationship between perfect siblings, and love interest of Olivia.
Olivia - The best friend of Alison. She is important is she helps to show how Alison interacts with other characters outside of her family.
Olly - The best friend of Ashley. He is important as she helps to show how Ashley interacts with him and no one else within the society.

My angle for my film is to show the audience that there is no such thing as perfection. The society is constantly striving for this ideal but perfection is defined differently for every person as they are each attracted to different things. Therefore there is no one way of defining perfection so it also can’t exist.
I want to inform the audience that perfection is an ideal that is impossible to strive for as even a society who enforces perfection tendencies isn’t perfect. I also want to achieve this in an entertaining way that is enticing to watch.

I would like the transitions to be perfect with no jumping or delays as this will shy away from the theme of perfection. I also want the sound to be at a suitable level so that the voice is louder than the background airy music and not so loud that it creates a sense of perfection. This film should seem perfect in the beginning, but as the film plays out, I would like to slowly degrade away from the ‘perfectness’ of the shots and transitions. Also to show a difference between Alison and Ashley I would like an almost natural brown tint to the shots in Ashley’s perspective and to not have the camera as steady and perfect to show how imperfect the society actually is whereas in comparison Alison’s shots will be crystal clear and smooth camera movements. I want to achieve this without over dramatising the imperfectness. The unsteady movements of the camera will still need to be watchable so only slightly out, maybe even slightly crooked.
